Spring – Summer Activities

During the Spring and especially in the Summer, Lorica offers a natural environment where the air is rich with aromas, essences and fragrances. During this period it is possible to walk among the nature, to climb aboard the historical steam trains or to visit the Musei Verdi of the Sila.
ENVIRONMENTAL EXCURSION

There are many paths available for trekking lovers, but also for those who want to take a simple walk. You can decide to go on your own (the trails are signposted) or use an authorized guide by consulting the Sila National Park Authority's website.

BOBSLED ROUTE

The track is about a kilometer long and winds harmoniously through the Sila woods. To reach the take-off station, you can use a very comfortable treadmill. It is an incredible green experience thanks to the ecological plant present.

BOAT TRIP ON LAKE ARVO

A new-generation boat that is powered by batteries and is respectful of the environment can carry up to 22 people and explore the beauty of Lake Arvo. During the journey which lasts about 30/35 minutes, a guide will provide information about Lake Arvo and Lorica.

SILAVVENTURA PARK

This park consists of a series of acrobatic high paths where the users move about in maximum safety from one tree to another while having to overcome different obstacles. This path is set exclusively in nature where adults and children can measure their physical abilities.

CUPONE (LAKE CECITA)

Begin your visit at the reception center of the Sila National Park which is equipped with a naturalistic museum, educational workshops, and temporary exhibitions. After touring the nearby botanical and geological garden the visit will take you on the educational trail located on the shores of Lake Cecita that contains a rich wildlife with enclosures of animals.

HORSE-BACK RIDING

There are numerous riding schools located in the area which makes it possible to take excursions on horseback along the paths that are outlined by the C.A.I, but also to deviate from them from small mule tracks and fresh streams. This is a charming alternative that will make you embark on the adventurous discovery of the Sila.

BIKE/MOUNTAIN BIKE RENTAL

It is possible to rent bikes and mountain bikes for excursions and itineraries in the woods or for relaxing trekks along the lake while practicing one of the most popular outdoor activities. There are several paths to explore which are all fully outlined and available in GPS.

OPEN FARMS IN SILA (BIO-EDUCATIONAL FARMS)

A network of farms and agrotourism establishments are open in the Sila which aim to demonstrate the development of life on the farm to its visitors. This includes activities such as: cow milking to vegetable cultivation, as well as the process of producing typical organic products from the Sila with relative taste tests.

Croce di Magara

Take a visit to the Fallistro Nature Reserve, which was deemed an asset by the FAI (Italian Environmental Fund)- Since 2016 it has been called ``I Giganti della Sila``. It consists of a strip of pine forest where the trees have survived intact since the 1600's. The can reach up to 45 meters in height and have a diameter of up to two meters. They are a true majestic spectacle of nature! Access is allowed only on foot.

San Giovanni in Fiore

Take a visit to the historical center of San Giovanni in Fiore and to Florense Abbey founded by Abbot Gioacchino da Fiore around 1200 which links its history to that of the entire country. Do not miss the demological museum that documents history, economy and traditions of the people from Sila.

TAKE A TRIP ON THE LAKE BY CANOE OR KAYAK

At Lorica Sports Center it is possible to rent canoes or kayaks to navigate the waters of the Arvo. Equipped with a canoe storage, the center is a reference point for the Italian rowing and kayaking teams. You can also take private lessons with well-qualified instructors.

SILA'S STEAM TRAIN

Take a journey through time aboard the historical Sila steam train. From the ancient carriages you can admire the majestic mountain landscape which is beautiful in every season, up to the village of Silvana Mansio which is the highest railway station in Europe.
